About : Drukpa Mila Center

The mission of the Drukpa Mila Center is to help spread the authentic teachings of the Drukpa Kagyu lineage of Bhutanese/Tibetan Buddhism in the United States, and benefit sentient beings everywhere. The Drukpa Kagyu is a subsect of the Kagyu tradition, one of the four main schools of Tibetan Buddhism.

Our founder, spiritual director, and resident teacher is Venerable Khenpo Karma Namgyel Rinpoche. Drukpa Mila Centers are presently located in Longmont, Colorado and Salem, Oregon.

Khenpo Karma Namgyel Rinpoche was born in Bhutan of a Nyingma/Drukpa Kagyu family. He entered a Drukpa Kagyu monastery in Bhutan at age 7, and studied there until he was 21. In 1987, he went to Nepal for further training with Khenpo Rigdzin Dorje, a Nyingma Master. He came to the United States in 1996, and now lives in Longmont, Colorado. Devoted to the well-being of others - individuals, students, and the broader community - Karma Rinpoche offers his time, resources, wisdom, and generosity of heart by providing many services, such as divination, astrological readings, blessings and clearings for the home and office, pet blessings, purification through water blessings, and fire ceremonies. For example, the power and intention of the fire ceremonies is to bless, heal, purify, and protect the environment and people from disaster, disease, imbalance, and all negativity. For those who are dying or deceased, the fire ceremony brings peace and comfort in their transition.

The Drukpa Mila Center has organized and sponsored several visits by Karma Rinpoche's root teacher and the center's official sponsor, His Holiness Ngawang Tenzin Rinpoche. For these tours, His Holiness has traveled from Bhutan in order to give teachings and empowerments to students of the center, as well as to groups throughout Colorado, Oregon, and across the United States.

As practice is the essence of the Dharma, Karma Rinpoche has established regular weekly practices at the center. Those with any level of experience and background are welcome! The practices, given in Tibetan, include Green Tara Sadhana (Tuesdays at 6:30pm), and Chenrezig Sadhana (Wednesdays at 6:30pm). This Chenrezig Sadhana, "A Short Accomplishing Practice of the Buddha of Compassion," was composed by His Holiness Ngawang Tenzin Rinpoche specifically for the Drukpa Mila Center. We have tsok offering (blessed food) after each practice, so you are welcome to bring a food or fruit offering.

Executive Director of the Salem Drukpa Mila Center, Donna Selby, also offers compassionate care for the living and the dying, and prayers for anyone who is in need.
