Classes at the Drukpa Mila Center

The Drukpa Mila Center is making plans to hold classes at the Center. Lama Karma will coordinate and/or teach the classes. Times and dates of the classes will be listed once the class is confirmed. If other one-time-only classes become available by other teachers, the listing of the class will appear in the “Highlights” section and in this section.

Future Classes Being Planned:

Meditation Classes

The Center regularly schedules meditation (see Calendar) for interested persons. Sacred texts are taught and meditation is practiced. Beginner classes are being planned for individuals who are interested in learning about starting meditation techniques. Individual tutoring is also available.

Special Devotional Practices

The Center has been observing special holy days such as Lhabab Duchen and Losar (Tibetan New Year). Lama Karma teaches interested persons some special prayers for these times. In addition, other classes will be offered to focus on particular prayers or pujas with more detail.

Making a Torma

This class is still under development. In this class, what a torma is will be explained as well as its purpose. The participant will also make a simple torma for his/her personal use.

Learning Basic Lama Dancing Techniques

This class is being developed. Lama Dancing offers the ability to practice concentration and meditation in a different form. The participant will learn about the origins of Lama Dancing and basic techniques of a lama dance.

Learning to Play Sacred Instruments

The Center is planning to offer classes to teach how to play sacred Buddhist instruments including the Cymbals, Kangling, Jaling (Flute), Dung (Trumpet), Drum and Damaru.

Ongoing Tibetan Classes

Classes are being planned for beginner to advanced students. Reading, writing and speaking will be taught. Lama Karma has taught Tibetan Language for the past 6 years. Classes usually run for 8 weeks and meet 2 times per week for about 2 hours each.

Ongoing Dzonka (Bhutanese) Classes

Lama Karma has also begun to teach the Bhutanese language to interested persons. Classes run on a similar schedule to the Tibetan Classes. Future classes are being planned.
